MINUTES
Cresco Theatre Commission
The Cresco Theatre Commission met Monday, August 11th at 5:30 PM in Champlin Hall. Members present were David Gosch, Kelly Bartling, Ann Seebach, Gayle Kelm, and Julie Wilson. Steve Lickteig and Kari Waterbeck were unable to attend. Guests: Wendy Lickteig, Cresco Theatre Manager, and Stan Fosaaen, City Council.
The August agenda, June minutes, and financials were reviewed. Ann Seebach made the motion to approve, seconded by Kelly Bartling, and unanimously approved by the Commission.
Wendy Lickteig presented the manager’s report. Wendy reported that $781 was raised from the dunk tank at National Night Out. The server needed repairs and this has been completed for $800. Sunday matinees will be shown with close captioning when it is available. Tickets have been selling for the 8/23 show “Scriptless in Seattle.” Commission members will be on hand to help with this show. Wendy will be presenting at the Iowa League of Cities Fall Conference about the Scene Shop. Concession prices are now up to $3. The staff is doing well.
Old Business:
- Friends of Theatre-Therma Fitzgerald and Jerry and Kathy Ferrie would like to assist.
- Scene Shop Progress/ Fundraising-The concrete is poured, plumbing is done, and things are moving in the right direction. For fundraising an auction of services was recommended, additional letters will be mailed out with info on current progress, give back cans are in the works, The Ox and Wren is holding an event on 8/21 with proceeds to go toward the Scene Shop, and CCT is working on the show “My Way,” which will also be a fundraiser for the Scene Shop.
New Business:
- Election of Officers: Dave Gosch will continue as president, Kelly Bartling as Vice President, and Julie Wilson will continue as secretary. Motion to approve was made by Gayle Kelm, seconded by Ann Seebach, and unanimously approved by the Commission.
- Fundraising-See information from above. In addition, “The Wizard of Oz” was wildly successful and well attended. The profits will go to the Scene Shop Fund. (Approximately $17,000-$18,000)
- The next meeting will be September 8th, 2025, at 5:30 PM. Motion to approve was made by Julie Wilson, seconded by Kelly Bartling, and unanimously approved by the Commission.
Comments:
- Comments from Community Theatre-Dave and Kelly shared that Commission members are encouraged to assist with all CCT Performances. The rental of the Theatre for the summer musical was discussed. Since all profits from “The Wizard of Oz” will go directly to the Scene Shop Project, The Commission would like to ask City Council to waive rental fees for CCT. The Commission will go to the Council Meeting on 8/18/25 to make this request.
- Comments from Chamber-None
- Comments from City Council-Stan Fosaaen shared how impressed he was with the musical and his appreciation for the time and effort given by all.
- Comments from the Audience-None
Motion to adjourn was made by Julie Wilson, seconded by Kelly Bartling and unanimously approved by the Commission.
Respectfully submitted,
Julie A. Wilson
