Board Member Denner called the Cresco Park and Recreation meeting to order on 8/20/2025, at 12:00 pm at the Cresco Fitness Center (CFC). Board Members Denner, Johnson, and Myers were present. Herold and Hovden were absent.

Also Present: Brandon Kerian and Rich McConnell

Myers made the motion to approve the consent agenda which included the approval of the agenda; claims, and minutes of the July 21, 2025 meeting. Johnson seconded the motion and it passed all ayes.

Other Business: – – –

Comments from the audience: Members of the local pickleball group were present to discuss the Park Board’s decision to deny a permanent shed being placed near the pickleball/tennis courts in Evans Park. Kerian and members of the Board cited several reasons for the decision, but noted an alternative, smaller shed could be placed within the courts to house court cleaning equipment.

Kerian reported on the Fitness Center: Memberships: General memberships are at 850 and 24/7 access is at 189.

Employees: Denner made the motion to hire Isaiah Soresen and James Kennedy as new lifeguards. Myers seconded the motion and it passed all ayes.

Kerian discussed upcoming community events & pool project concepts: CFC Staff is planning several community events in 2025/2026 to include: Spooky Sprint 5K, Ugly Sweater Fun Run, Active Aging Expo, and a competitive run to take place in the Spring of 2026. Kerian also provided visual concepts of how the new pool deck floor project will look once completed.

Kerian reported on Parks:

Pickleball Courts: Discussion was had over the local pickleball group’s request for a shed to house cleaning and sporting equipment. The Board agreed to offer a smaller shed to be placed within the courts to house cleaning & sporting equipment. The shed and the contents within would be owned and maintained by Park & Rec. Specific equipment needed to clean the courts for adequate play will be determined by Park & Rec. Kerian will reach out to the pickleball group to see if this would be an option.

Kerian reported on Recreation:

Year End Recap: Kerian provided statistics showing youth Park & Rec. programming participation and revenue numbers over the past two years. Kerian noted in 2025 that smaller camps & activities numbers were slightly lower, while main sport programs increased. Overall revenue compared to 2024 also increased by ~$10,000.

Myers moved to adjourn at 1:10 pm. Denner seconded and it passed all ayes.  The next regular Cresco Park and Rec meeting is scheduled for September 10, at 6:00 pm at CFC.

Respectfully Submitted,

Brandon Kerian
