The Cresco City Council held a special meeting with the Howard County Supervisors on June 4, 2026, at 4:00 pm at the Howard County Courthouse. Council Members Carman, Wolfe, Fosaaen, and Kriener were present. Council Member McConnell attended by phone. No council members were absent. County Supervisors Pisney and Eastman were present. County Supervisor Murray was absent. Others in attendance included Mayor Fortune, Police Chief Ruroden, Sheriff Busch, Jail Administrator Bauer, County Auditor Chapman, City Clerk Hill, and Public Works Director Brenno.

Carman made a motion to set a Public Hearing for June 15, 2026 for Adoption of the Comprehensive Plan. Kriener seconded and it passed all ayes.

The joint meeting was held to discuss a proposed increase to the current dispatch contract. The City of Cresco currently pays 25% of all payroll costs. Discussion included increasing the City’s share up to 50% due to the volume of calls related to the Cresco Police Department.

Fortune stated that City residents currently pay approximately 18% of dispatch center expenses through their county taxes but believes the City should pay its fair share of the expenses but felt that 50% was too high.

After a lengthy discussion, it was agreed that the City will continue to pay 25% of payroll expenses, with a formal 28E agreement to be drafted. A meeting will be scheduled in fall 2026 to discuss any potential increases for inclusion in the FY28 budget.

Carman moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:29 pm. Kriener seconded and it passed all ayes The next regular Cresco City Council meeting will be June 15, 2026, at 5:30 pm at Cresco City Hall.
