Yard Waste Collection Program

Cresco will begin its 2023-yard waste collection program on Monday, April 17th. The program is tentatively scheduled to continue until November 15th. City crews will collect yard waste on the specified dates listed below.

No yard waste pick-up June thru September. Yard waste site will be open for citizens of Cresco to deposit yard waste throughout the season. If high winds or a storm would hit the area City officials will assess the situation to determine if a special pick-up would be made.

You must use biodegradable bags.

All yard waste must be set out before 7:00 a.m. on the above dates. It is to be noted, however, that in the event the crews are unable to complete the collection on Monday, they will continue on Tuesday where they left off until the routes are completed. Once they have gone through your area of town, they will not be back until the next scheduled collection date.

Because the yard waste is composted, only leaves, grass clippings, garden waste, bark, nuts, pine cones-what nature deposits, should be bagged up. Only the specified paper yard waste bags should be used. These bags may be purchased from local Cresco merchants. A bag must not weigh more than 50 pounds. The bags are to be left open on the top and placed at the curbside for pick up. Any other means of packaging yard waste material will not be accepted.

Tree branches up to 10 feet in length will be accepted, but they must be stacked loose, not tied, and placed neatly on the boulevard for the next scheduled Monday pick up. Most of the branches are run through the wood chipper but if there is a very large pile, the crews may use a loader to load the pile and take to the yard waste site. The branches must be on the curbside by 7:00 a.m. of the scheduled pickup date.

For those citizens wishing to deposit yard waste at their own convenience, the yard waste site located two miles south on the Vernon Springs Road will be open all year.

Wood chips and composted material that may be used for landscaping and other needs will be available free of charge, but residents are required to load the materials themselves. Firewood is available on a limited basis free of charge. A release form must be signed to protect the city from possible accidents during woodcutting. There is a $1.00 charge for handling paperwork.

Persons outside the Cresco city limits may use the compost site for yard waste disposal with a $5.00 per cubic yard charge (pickup load).
